Treatment or local anaesthetic surgery to relieve your pain and discomfort.
An ingrown toenail is a painful condition that can become infected and may require treatment.
They can occur at any age and have a multitude of causes.
Surgery is indicated if conservative methods have not been successful. Surgery is performed under a local anaesthetic and is normally uncomplicated and painless.
The procedure takes 20-30 minutes and you will usually be able to return to normal activities on the following day.
After surgery, you will be issued with a dressing pack and asked to return 2 days later for a post operative check up.

To prevent ingrown toenails, trim your nails straight across rather than rounding the corners, wear properly fitting shoes with enough room for your toes, and maintain good foot hygiene.
You should see one of FITFEET's professionals if the pain is severe, if there is spreading redness or signs of infection (such as pus or discharge), or if you have diabetes or poor circulation.
In most cases, ingrown toenails are merely painful and annoying, but if left untreated, they can infect the underlying bone and lead to a serious bone infection.
